find out more about the regular workshops at the YMCA

what we promote

The main objectives of the group are to promote the benefits of playing traditional West African drums in a group, and to provide the opportunity for members of the local community to increase their understanding and experience of inter-cultural activity through musical performance; and to promote the provision of facilities for the recreation and leisure-time occupation of those people in the interests of social welfare and cultural cohesion with the object of improving quality of life.

the workshops

The Cupar Djembe Workshop meets every two weeks at the YMCA, at Bonnygate in Cupar, Fife. Each workshop lasts 2 hours; the first hour is aimed at beginners where easy rhythms are learnt, and the second hour is devoted to more elaborate rhythms. These workshops started in 2004, tutored by Steve Haden, and aim at learning new rhythms and practice together. There are usually 10-15 participants and everyone is welcome to join =)

tuition

First session is free =) Following 1st session, a tuition of £12 per person is applied including drum hire. We also have an Annual Membership fee to allow us to support the group, this membership should be paid no later than the 3rd month you've joined the workshops.
